Check all linkages for smooth operation and make sure all bushings are intact and in good shape.  Also check that you are getting full throttle opening with pedal floored touching the kick down switch button.

HI Daniel

thanks , i have just looked at my linkages having taken off the air filter housing and some of the plastic grommets on the linkages are missing

Does anyone have a 6.9 engine diagram with parts identified and numbered?? so i can order a grommet set?

Thanks

Also check the bushing in the connection between the shift lever from the transmission and the control pressure rod.  They are notorious for crumbling.  You will have to remove the rod and do this on the bench, much easier.   That bushing is super cheap and readily available.
There are a whole host of bushings in the linkage as well as the throttle ball at the firewall.  From memory some of them are NLA so it might prove a challenge to source them all.
