Oh, rumb, thanks for the picture. What's that then, an inch and 3/8th? An yes, daantjie is correct 23 screws in to the back of 20 with the spring and ball inside. My guess is that the spring slips over the end of this part, what I have been calling a shuttle valve? If you could give me an idea of the outside diameter, that would be great. Just one last thing, does it feel easy to compress, doesn't look that heavy gauge really and the windings are quite open.
These go 1 louder, see, up to 11.
Trying to equal things out, I now drive a W123 300D as well.
Oh, and a 560 SEC, oops.
And a Citroen SM, bad Dave.

Spring is 31.5 mm long, 13.95 mm diameter, .86mmm wire diameter. A Light spring.

Are you sure it's not just down in the barrel. I have to work to remove it. Not exactly the kind of spring you would expect to jump out at all.

Hi Everyone and especially rumb because I have found a company who will make me a new spring, given the information I have.
Ok, rumb, can you just double check the dimensions for me as it's going to be £90 for a one off, and I do not doubt your measurements, but as a surveyor, I would never measure anything once, it helps when you are making tunnels meet each other to be very sure as missing the tunnel coming the other way makes you deeply unpopular, not to say unemployable and I did enjoy a long and reasonably successful career.... So, could you just wave you callipers over the spring just one more time? And if anyone else wants one, unlikely, but you never know, let me know, as one more is just a tenner. That's £10 sterling you our American cousins.
Anyway, a very happy, safe and generally lovely NY to all.
