As discussed in a previous thread, I snapped my emergency brake cable when my flex disc let go.
I have been searching, but I cannot find information on how to access the cable on the pedal side and how to route it down to the bottom of the car. Can any of you point me to where to find this information?
Thanks
John
For starters you will need to remove the driver side under dash panel and the black plastic ducting plus the kick panel. Carefully as your are dealing with 40 year old plastic :o you might also have to remove the foot rest. Be very careful around the A pillar plastic trim strip. They are usually brittle and very hard to find good used.

The W116 FSM is hosted by this forum (second permalink at the top of the Mechanicals section on the Garage Forum).
Below is the bookmarked shortcut I use to get right into the FSM:

Links to installing and removing the parking cable are below:

Glad the replacement shift rod worked.
I gather that the parking pawl failure to engage issue is next...after the parking cable issue is resolved?
Alec,
I will be working on the parking pawl issue this week.
I just got a bit flustered trying to install the new cable. Got the carpeted panel off and couldn't figure out how to peel the next layers off, under the dash. Once I've got that tackled, I'll go to work on the split but on the nose cone!
hi
just on the parking pawl, i had a problem with mine a few years ago but was just that the tiny plastic o ring? on the gearbox linkage had come loose and when put in park it wasn't fully engaging, it was a simple cheap fix replace the o ring
hope that's all that's up with yours.
my handbrake wasn't great at the time so i had to park turned in the kerb until sorted

John,
I'm assuming you are referring to the linkage bushings? I have eliminated that as a possibility, as I have removed thenlinkage and manually shifted the transmission. Park will not engage when shifted directly at the transmission.
Either way, I'll take some pics when I'm in there and report back on this thread and on the other thread related to my parking pawl issue.
