Did you call The Mercedes-Benz Classic Center to see if they can get it? http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/enthusiast/classic_center#module-7 Sometimes they have good advice if a part is no longer available, or know if it's been superseded by a new part number. I bought one from them about 6 years ago. I'd look it up in EPC to see if the part number has been superseded, but my subscription expired and they now want $75 a year!

EPC is still free for North America cars - https://epc.startekinfo.com/

These are easy enough to come by in junkyards.  It is the same part on W123 300D's and W126 300SD's up to 1985.

Same in Europe - 50EUR from January 1.
It used to be 21EUR.

Mercedes Benz UK Club offers free epc access included in the subscription.  No strings attached.  The magazine (gazette) is nice and they also offer the english version of Classic MB magazine (trimestral).  they have a forum too but is not dedicated to w116 but all models.  the w116 section doesn't have a lot of traffic though.
