1976 Mercedes Benz 280SE specs
« on: 30 March 2005, 10:31 PM »
Hello all!

I have a 1976 Mercedes Benz 280SE, chassis W116.  I've been having some problems with the engine and a mechanic suggested I get the specifications with regards to the timing degrees/dwell, gaps, etc.  Does anyone have this information.  I would really appreciate any advice!

Thanks in advance!

Have you looked in the service manual? Click on 'handbook' above.

Yes, I have looked for the service manual in the link provided.  However, the 1976 280SE is not listed.  My understanding is that this particular model is a European release, and not a U.S.

I'm wondering could the specs of the 1977 280SE be used in a 1976 280SE?  Maybe not?

Sorry, I missed the year difference. I am not sure if you could use the later year.

All that is do know is the newer 2.8 L engine with K-Jetronic was introduced in early 1976 and indicated with an engine number 110.985 compared to 110.983 for the D-Jetronic engines.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
