1974 450SEL Sub Frame Mounts

I just finished replacing the sub frame mounts in my car.

I am amazed at the difference in ride. The car seems to track better, rattles have gone away, the whole car just feels so much more solid and stable. I feel like I am driving a Mercedes again.

Relatively easy job, huge "bang for the buck". I am going to start on the front suspension, can't wait to see feel the improvements.

I thought the front might be harder but hopefully worthwhile. I am thinking while I am in there I will take care of the engine and tranny mount. From there I am going to start taking care of oil leaks.

I may actually get this to the point of a good daily driver.

Yup to do it right you have to do the ball joints in the steering knuckle, plus both sides of the lower control arms as well as the ones in the tubular cross member.  None of these jobs are easy.  Lots of blood, sweat and tears when I did these.  Luckily lots of good posts on here, plus all the parts are still available and not too bad on the wallet.

It can appear to be a hard job, but IMHO not really hard once you tackle it. Seems scary at first, but just take your time.

Find a good shop that does a lot of press work and they can handle swapping all the bushings and ball joint.

wheel bearings, shocks, brake lines are all good to replace while there. check tie rod ends, and idler arm bushing.

Thanks for the pointers. I have done the brakes so they are in good shape. I will keep you guys posted on how I make out.
