1974 450SE chugging

Drove for about 60 klms on freeway no problems, off freeway in 60 klm zone and started to miss. It got worse and stalled, fuel pump making noise. Stop and restart and okay for 100 yards then did it again.

The car was sitting for a long time and maybe fuel sour or sludge from tank is blocking fuel lines.

Fuel pump and filter renewed and only driven a few klms since.

On restart the pump primes okay and stops as it should.

I feel that the fuel line has a blockage from sitting so long.

Can the pump and filter be flushed out ?

Can anyone advise?

Many thanks

I am not familiar with D-Jetronic engines which I assume you have on your 1974 450SE. The fuel pump is supposed to make a"wizzzzzzzzzz' or "zzzzzzzzz" sound. for my CIS 450SE I add 250ml of ATF fluid to a full fuel tank once a year. ATF acts like a detergent and keeps pump,, distributer, WUR and injectors clean. In your case,, I would add 250ml ATF to half tank assuming that you are really sure it is a fuel delivery problem.
