Worked on the 6.9 this weekend

A few months ago, my 6.9 ran really badly so I removed the injectors and cleaned them. Once the injectors were cleaned, the car ran beautifully for a couple of months but then started to act up again. So this weekend, I removed the spark plugs one by one to identify which injectors were acting up. All the plugs were clean except for the front left and the rear right cylinder. These were the two culprits.

I removed the injectors and replaced them with new Bosch injectors that can be purchased at Advance Auto Parts for $30.00.

I also added my new plate which I think is fitting for the car  :)

Nathan, there is an HSV here with 5POINT7.  I always thought it would be great to see his face if he pulled up behind 6POINT9. Ouch - ego blown away.

I do like the Perth 6.9 Owner who has his plate:  "TINLCI"  (I think that's right??)......................"There is nothing like cubic inches"

Lets face it Size Does matter - anyone who says otherwise is stuck driving a Hyundai Excel
sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

You guys on the mainland can get 7 characters plates?
Here in tassie they have to be 5 or 6 characters

Would love that plate on mine, think I will have to settle for 450SEL, not that most people would know what that means anyway.

nathan

Chris,
there is no replacement for cubic inches as Phil says! TINSFC...
Des, in WA we can get 8 letter aluminium plates or 11 letter carbonite plates (these seem to fade)
so Des, what about '417CI' (cubic inches)!
all the best from the far mainland

Nice plates Al!!  Do you guys have to pay an annual fee for a plate like that?

BTW, after all you did to the car, what happened to the "450sel" badge?  Is this omission a factory one?

I just got new plates too; "ENZ350", noone seems to get it.  Limited to 5 or 6 characters, all the good ones like: MB350, BEN350,BNZ350 and so on are taken thanks to the collection of 350sl and slc owners and to MB for producing another 3.5L engine in their current lineup.  Everyone else that knows the car calls it what I call it, "the merc".  Mmmm  "DEMURK". ::)  You 69ers are lucky MB hasn't reinstated the engine size in a newer model.  Can't say that will ever happen.

I picked ENZ because after my wife's pleas to see a Split Enz concert in Melbourne earlier this year, I unintentionally became a fan. That and also my wife was less critical about the $90 yearly outlay ;)

"350SE"  is available, but be buggered if I'm going to pay  $400+ a year.  "3POINT5" is too long obviously but regardless, it doesn't have the same impact as "6POINT9".

Oscar, in the US the car was sold new as simply "the 6.9" - no 450SEL badge ever featured; infact it was originally scheduled to be the 690SEL and I have an article from Road and Track in 1975 titled just that "Mercedes new 690SEL".  Elsewhere it was the 450SEL 6.9.

6.9? I think I'd prefer this one....with the engine to match of course:

Not sure where the pics came from but I remember that the engine had custom, larger pistons made for it and even the badge was made to match.

I think Chris Maher knows the guy who owns this car. It's in Phoenix AZ and has a huge aluminum radiator.

I should be heading out there in a couple of weeks. I may get lucky and see it. i owe Chris a visit.

I really like the plate, I didn't think I could get it. Here in GA, there is a nominal price for vanity plates.
