windshield wiper arms askew ?????

Gents,

It seems the windshield wiper arms on my 450 SEL, (or as you lads in the warmer climes and the UK call windscreen wiper arms) don't retract to their proper position, tucked away at the base of the windshield. When I turn my windshield wipers off the driver's side arm is around 6 inches away from the base of the windshield. Judging from photos of other cars, they do seem to rest quite high above the base of the glass. Although it is no big deal from a functional stand point, I would like to  have them retract properly if they are not. Anyone have any ideas what the proper resting position should be?

Best regards,

Darcy

Sounds about where mine sit, a bit high but I'm happy with them there.

The wipers can be adjusted lower, hinge up the cap on the pivot (different to hinging up the arm), loosen the nut and wiggle the arm loose, reposition and rerighten.

My problem is wear in the gear box, most 116s are going to be the same. I can adjust them to sit perfectly when dry,  but they'll end up sitting on the trim when wet and they park.

I hate driving along in the wet and wipers the are banging into the trim.

Have a play but be prepared to compromise.
