Will a W123 Outside Door Handle Fit a W116

I ask because the driver side door handle on my '79 300SD broke today. New door handles are $200-$300... but I have an '85 300D parts car... I'd rather use that if at all possible. Thanks.

Best case scenario the door handles from a W123 would look out of place on a W116. I still think i could possibly rebuild the W116 handle with parts from the W123, but havent had a chance to get started on the work yet.

The easiest thing would be to try it and see, then you'll know exactly what the deal is.

It would actually be easier if somebody had already tried it... That way if it doesnt work i wont waste hours of time on a failed project, lol. But anyway....

That's my approach too, I never get of my arse and try anything, always rely on other people, life's much easier that way.

One thing to note is the size of the lock barrel. I pulled a door handle from a car that looked exact, it fit and worked perfectly. When I went to change the lock barrel I found that the hole for it was to small.
