Where to run AUX input / line input cable?

Hi folks!

I am adding an AUX input to my Becker Europa Stereo II on my 1974 280S. I have all the components and am ready to go, but I was wondering what your advice would be on where to run the AUX cable and where to put the breakout box that has the 3.5mm input?

I had a brief look under the dashboard yesterday and am not entirely sure which way would be the best. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

I realize this might actually have been better suited for the Interiors forum - please feel free to move.

I built and installed my little breakout box over the weekend and will post some photos here soon for others to see what I did - it was actually pretty straight forward, took a little time and one (ouch) hole drilled behind the ashtray, but now I have a breakout box with AUX running to my ashtray.

Hi Agav

Welcome to the forum.  I think the information you need is on the Library page.  Here is a link, I hope this is helpful.

Hi Gavin,

Thanks! I looked at that previously, but I didn't want modify my radio, let alone drill the front plate for a 3.5mm socket. The Becker Europa II (and other similar radios from the time) has a 7 pin DIN socket on the back that was originally meant for an optional tape deck, but you can make your own cable to give you an auxiliary input (how amazing for a 40 year old radio). It's actually quite elegant as it automatically switches between radio and input depending on whether your 3.5mm is plugged in.

I'll post a little guide here soon, I think that'll be a nice addition as I couldn't find a complete set of steps anywhere online.

Stay tuned! Will post over the weekend, so I can take photos in daylight. :)
