I can't really see a trend yet apart from 2 x 6.9's seem to be the same.

Make that 3 x 6.9, mine is silver, 116 584 10 39.

This thread just illustrates what a sad bunch we are, photos of filler cap stickers...

I resisted for a few days but finally had to go and have a look.

:D
Resistance is futile koan  ;D

Curiosity will get the better of everyone next time they fill.  Whether they post or not.  The seed has been planted

Thanks to all that's gone and taken a look.  No other variations?

I'm going to conclude at least that 6.9's should have silver with green writing.

It's strange that the other V8's though years apart had the same colour- ie: light green

The 280's are a mystery though.  That blue/green then the dark green.  Oh well.

Oh, and we'll omit the pink one from the count.

Those little rubber bungs can be bought genuine-only $53.98 each from your trusty Mercedes Benz dealer-only kidding, they are probably dear for what you are going to get, but will not break the bank.

Anyone, that wants new stickers for the filler flap, I have a reasonable selection of new ones-from memory, green and grey ones. Regards, Styria

I tried to purchase the little rubber bungs and were told that they were no longer available so I purchased two for a 126. They are too long and need to be trimmed to size to get the flap to sit flush with the panel - I think they only cost about 2 or 3 dollars each.
The 126 ones don't have the holes through the middle but are solid however.

My sticker is the same as the green 350 sticker - no 3 in Oscar's initial Post but I can't photograph it as it is masked up.

I was thinking that maybe it had to do with the S/SE/SEL designation. My 280 is the only 280SEL mentioned I think, whereas the others were a 280S, and a 280SE.

My dad's red 280SE has a that bright green one for instance. Just a thought, will be interesting to see if something comes up.  ;)

OK, I finally had a look at my sticker - it is the green colour like in Oscar's 350, but it has no picture of the car and it is unique to South African cars because it is written in both English and Afrikaans! Remind me to post a picture!

The different w116 models have different tires and weights and therefore the stickers are colour coded. My 350SE is green !

Given the tire sizes, I suspect the 280's have their own color, the 350 and the 450 another and again a different one for the 6.9

Just had a look today, and mine (on 280SE, Euro spec) is a rich green like the one posted above by Nathan.

Finally remembered to take photos.

Here are my tyre-data stickers - 1979 Euro-spec (sold new in Mayfair, London) - W116 280SE. Note that the original wheels were 6.5" wide (they are bundt alloys), not the skinnier ones commonly fitted to the 6-cylinder models.

Mine is green - I have only just gotten the car out of the shed after it was last put there 5 weeks ago....started instantly with no dramas. As it should.
Drives like a dream. As it should.
