w116 280s 1974-green NEED THE ORIGINAL FACTORY LET COLOR CODE

Hello,

I am restorating a 1974 280s in green metallic color. But the car is already painted 2 times before me and I donot know which color is the original now. Is there a way to check it from the VIN number. I tries local MB dealer but they could not identify. Any one can help? Would appreciate. VIN #11602010021279

The color code information is not in the VIN. You'll need to locate the body plate, which is in front of the radiator, next to the bonnet latch:



You see there in the middle row where mine says 861H ? That's the color code. Yours may end in an 'H' or a 'G'. The three digit number is what you need. Compare it to the codes listed here: http://www.w116.org/library/colors

For example, mine is 861 - Silver Green Metallic.
