Title: USA 6.9 to 450 SEL bumper conversion
Post by: Rolo on 10 March 2021, 03:30 PM
The rubber on my bumpers are toast  I got rubber dye and started reading the posts on streaking.  The face bumper strips are going to look awful.  All 450 SEL bumper rubber is still available except for the front side pieces.  I think I can dye those and they'll look okay.

Anyone swap the 6.9 bumper rubber for 450 SEL?  The top stainless steel skins are the same on both cars.

I would swap the entire bumper and not just the rubber. I found out the hard way that the 6.9 bumpers are different and have extra holes for installing the rubber. I bought a set of 6.9 bumper rubbers from a wrecking yard about an hour away and was charged for a complete set of bumpers (should have just bought the whole bumpers). When I discovered I couldn't fit the 6.9 rubber on my bumpers, I ended up making another trip and buying the rest of the bumpers and paying for 2 bumpers twice.

Actually, if you are going to swap out the 6.9 bumper rubbers for 450SEL ones, you might be able to get away with it. I think.

I think I get your point.  The 6.9 bumpers have more holes than the 450 SEL?

The local dealer here is pretty good about returns.  If the rubber won't fit, I can either drill or return the parts.

Yes, and if I remember, the holes are in the lip where the smaller rubber trim from a 450SEL, etc., would fit. It still may work.
