In the above link is someone's advertisement for a set of 5 supposedly aftermarket Mercedes alloys. Could anyone identify them? Also, I'm wondering if these would be too wide for my W116 or not.

Thanks!

Hi 200HP,

These rims look similar to what my buddy has under his 1972 280SE 4.5 W108. They are also 16". Which would suggest they fit your car.

This guy moved away to California, so I cannot ask him whether he used adapters or not. I can't remember if we discussed about it.

Cheers,
Samuli

Those are Centra wheels, and are supposed to have center caps. They have a nice look, and the alloy ones seem to hold up well, but the plated ones are heavy and the chrome never lasts. In either case, the center caps are next to impossible to find, and when they do come up for sale, they are unreasonably expensive. There was a set in absolutely mint condition on a car at the wrecking yard here, of course missing the center caps. They were crushed with the car.

I used to have a set on my 300SD:

Thanks samuli, they look great on your buddy's w108. Nice to see what the look like fitted to a chrome era Benz! I think I like them more without the center caps.

Squiggle Dog, did your 8" wide Centra wheels require spacers to mount on your w116 to prevent rubbing in the steering? Or did everything clear just fine in full steering lock left & right?

Thanks

I have 8" Centras which fit without spacers but you'd have to ensure they're the right offset...  The front ones do have issues with clearance over the bearing caps.

I didn't use spacers on mine, and I did not have clearance issues.

Looks fantastic, love the tires! What offset should I look out for? Also, mind I ask what sort of tire sizes you used? They look amazing! 225/55r16?

Thanks!  The rear tyres are 255/50R16 which are now very hard to find.  Strangely that was the standard size (front and rear) for some Corvettes...
