The colour previously thought to be Thistle Green

Obviously I have been mistaken on the true colour of Thistle Green - code 882 for over 25 years.

I see Thistle Green was the colour that followed Silvery Green - code 861 and superseded this colour in the 1980 model year.

Silvery Green was discontinued after 1979 by the looks of things.

I now would like to know what this colour of green actually is that I have always liked.

Here is a picture from Mercedes Enthusiast which shows the shade of green I like.

Does anyone know the colour and/or code as I cannot find it in any of the US paint manufacturers sites.

Hi WGB

I believe that colour to be Cypress Green, code 876.

Have a look at this link: http://www.landiss.com/paintcodes.htm

yes it looks like cypress green.
check at www.meinbenz.de and choose the farbtabellen on the menu and 116 chassis you will find the colors and then click color number to find example cars.

But what is the number in the identification tag next to the radiator, this number ends in G or H.

Hi Tomi,

My car is Silbergrun - code 861H on my car .

What I was looking for was the correct name for a colour of 116 that was owned by a friend of mine 26 years ago.

Unfortunately as I have already purchased the paint twice (The first set in the can while I was stuffing around) and because I do not like changing original colours of cars I do not want to paint my car Cypress Green - as much as I would like.

I appreciate the information.

OK - I'm a happy driver. My code is 861 - Silver Green!! No more thistle to cut out of the paddock. Phew.

Brian, I'll admit calling every 116 that appears similar in colour to yours as, "thistle green".  I stand corrected now.  Perhaps some sellers need a lesson as well.  It's funny seeing some description of the colours on ebay and other net ads.

I've seen the meinbenz site before but I never knew the colours are hotlinked to pics of real examples, go look again, there's only a couple missing.
Tomi! They need an inkarot example, do you know of any   ;D

My car is a light silver green which is continually referred to as Thistle Green, but when I checked the Mercedes paint chart some time ago it was listed as "Silber", and no reference was made to green at all (I hope I spelt Silber correctly)

WGB

What is the paint code noted on the data plate in front of the radiator - Silber is just Silver.

The very light green colour should be Silbergrun (with an umlaut over the "u") code 861 or in the last year of production 1980 - Thistle Green 882.

Has your car been sprayed a different colour from original?

I had a look, and the code is 861H, so it's obviously Silbergrun - but anyone that mentions the colour to date has called it Thistle Green.

Gentlemen, I have always understood "Silbergrun" to be the German translation of Thistle Green, so it is still correct to call it Thistle Green.

For example the colour of my 280SE is "Tiefblau" (920), or deep blue, but the MB South Africa calls it Admiral Blue!!

Lost in translation?

Silber is German for Silver and Grun (with an Umlaut i.e. the two dots over the "u") is German for Green.
It is called Silver Green or Silvery Green - paint code 861 (usually suffixed with an H for some reason)

I do not know what the German for Thistle Green is but will find out - it has a different paint code - 882.

The letter after the paint code is for the manufacturer, "G" stands for Glasurit,
"H" stands for Herberts
