Would a seat adjuster in an 84 300D fit a seat in a 76 450SE?  Are the parts there compatible?

What part are you referring to?  If the black plastic handle has broken mercedescource sells a great bolt on replacement.

A better hack I found is to use the W116 RHD brake release handle. It's almost the same size, and allows for an easy mod.

I've had mine made from stainless steel rod, bent to the same shape. Looks good, works even better as there's no flex whatsoever and you don't have to worry about them breaking.

This must be one of the more painful design oversights in the W116, along with the fuse box placement and subsequent drainage nightmare :o

I agree to do whatever looks OK and has a firm connection with no/little flex in the connector, plastic bonded to metal as the original setup was would never have had long term sturdiness.

I think the DOT had it's hand in material selection.  The W108 handles are harder plastic and dont break.  I imagine some wonk worried that you could someone injure yourself so they made the plastic a bit softer and thus last shorter.
