I finally had the chance to scan some stuff at work, out of my options brochure (dated 73). Theres something for everyone (in particular, the headlamp cleaning wipers on the W114/W115 for Crayford)
Front page

Headrests, middle cushion for front seats, back headrests etc

Car phones

Suitcases (a colour version is on the front cover)

AND *drumroll*
The additional door safety padding for 280S/SE includes the fluted seats (bottom corner)

Enjoy!

Thanks Styria, I do have a confession, I leave the laptop running at night or in the background when im at work (like I am now  ;D). This is the best forum I have ever experienced. The brochure in question, I found on ebay u.k, I also bought a German edition of the same brochure. The interesting thing is, at the front of the brochure, they talk about M-B power steering and show the uniform brunette parking a 350SL with the line "have you experienced M-B power steering yet", another optional extra brochure from 1968 shows..*drumroll* a blonde parking a 250SL with the same "have you experienced..."

Thing is...dont ZF make the power steering units for MB?

i wonder how many people installed that phone system and left it in their unmolested...it would have cost more than a house, and the person who bought it probably had money to install the next generation quite quickly.
one of your first pics shows why i love old mercs...look at the size of that bloody sunroof!  from the 90s on, sunrooves got progressively smaller...for me, i think sunrooves should be big enough to be ejected from!
nice work 116

Keep 'em coming 116benz.  8)  I've only got 2 brochures one 1973 the other I'm not sure but maybe '75.  Anyway, I love seeing the colour pics of what they looked like new - unmarked, straight, no blemishes.  Not to mention the undercarriage all pristine and painted up when they talk about suspension and the driveline.

The smallest sunroof I have seen was on a Porsche 928, wasnt that much bigger than a letterbox slot, and probably just as usefull.

Oscar, the only brochure I havent got is the silver cover 6.9 brochure, and TBH I'm not in a rush to get one, from memory the brochure sets I've got are 73, 75 & 78/79 + aus spec fold outs (over the weekend I will have a chance to scan some stuff, plus some more pages from the accessories brochure depending on what the requests are)

I wonder if it is too late to order some of these features for my 450SE?
Regards,
BC

Might be BC, might be...

What would be interesting, would be to find out what the most unusual factory option was on W116's (anyone ever seen a w116 with a full length webasto canvas sunroof?)

Andrew280SEL

Wonderful!

Imagine looking through one of those brochures back in the 70's... :P
'79 280SEL- 560,000 Kms
'73 350SE- getting an AMG facelift
'79 450SEL 6.9

I'll see what I can do over the weekend about scanning a brochure, depending on time frame and what looks the best.

Is that the 4 page silver one ? If so, there is a reproduction available that I saw at Veterama. It was EUR 3.00.
