450sel5.0

Hi all, I bet you are all busting to know where that Rusty Brown 450SEL 6.9 ended up??? Or not....
Well, either way, this W116 nutter bought it.
I am a Mercedes enthusiast who likes to take on the difficult ones other people give up on. I run a reapair shop in central Victoria Australia, I specialise in Mercedes Benz.
When I first got it home I was surprised at how much some people had picked on it. Lets be honest all it needs is: Bonet, front guards, all doors, bumper bars front and rear, boot lid, right tail light, all new interior except the dash strangely, all suspension components (leaking), starter motor and ring gear (due to it being cranked and cranked with its cold start reg disconnected), passanger side floor damage needs to be cut out and repaired and right rear quarter is shot. I think that covers most of it.
So... I decided to fix it. Am I crazy?  :o  perhaps.
I started buy removing the rear bar and Rh tail light, I cut out a large section of the quarter panel (including the floor) and cut a nice rust free section out of one of my wrecks, I cleaned it all up, separated it all and reconstructed it. A nice bit of tig welding and she's ready for final dressing and paint.
Next area of attack is the passenger side floor. I will keep you all posted.  ;D
Cheers.
Oh. If anyone is curious about my username, I have installed a W126 500sel engine and box into my 1979 W116 SEL.

Rhetorical I know, but definitely not 8)  Particularly if you're doing it all yourself and have the means to do things properly which obviously you got all the right gear and know how.  Good luck with it, looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I am watching this thread in aniticipation...
How about some pics of that 500 motor in yr 450 SEL?
I've always wanted a 4spd box in a V8 116.

Excellent news... I'm glad to hear that the car now has an enthusiastic owner! :)

Lost interest..... well, I did not expect to sell it, I have always had it advertised at 4000 just to see what would happen. Looks like it will sell though, thats ok, I have 13 other Mercedes so it wont be a great loss. I just bought a BMW 1992 750il V12 and thats got by blood pumping. Also the 500 engine in my precious 450SEL is awesome so plenty to keep me happy. Sorry to dissapoint. Hey, perhaps one of you guys could finish it now that that nasty rust is gone from the rear quater.
It's on eBay if anyone wants to take a look and I have a rust free 280sel for parts, the panels on it are amazing!!! At an extra cost ofcourse : )

Rust repair is only as difficult as you want to make it, Ive seen cars that look like swiss cheese back from the media blasters turned into showroom floor as new condition with NOS panels and OEM air in the tyres lol.

Find a good donor, buy a nice spot weld drill (Wurth is nice) and pick or unpick away.

So, Central Vic is a big place and i know its not Ian, Jase or Tex coz they all cringe when i mention MB.

So do you do other peoples cars?
