Rust Repairs & Restoration

Any news on progress here??  Lots of work so I guess it could take a while!!!

When I sectioned a car for parts I found some areas of concern to all of us....  No external signs here and I'm not sure how it could be addressed:

Plenum above the heater fan:

Under the LF floor insulation and no real surprize (RHD car):


Sealed box section under the floor and back seat.  This is just behind the subframe mount.  I was shocked to find this on a fairly rust free car:

Any news on progress here??  Lots of work so I guess it could take a while!!!

Progress has been slow and not worth reporting. The challenge is still finding the time to work on the car around other commitments.

Thanks for sharing those photos. I think they confirm that there is no such thing as a rust-free original W116 but I have also seen relatively new cars with more rust. I just figure if I have rust under control for another 30+ years, I'll be happy.

Where does this drain from?

I can confirm the hose closer to the front wheel arch is the drain for the RHS of the plenum.  The one closer to the door is the RHF sunroof drain.
