Replacement Speakers

I did a forum search and found some information here about the replacement speakers in our W116's. From what I have read the front speakers (4") are easy. Has anyone come up with an easy way to mount replacement rear speakers (5-1/4") on the rear shelf?

Some models such as my '74,  have 4X6 front speakers FYI.

Hi Zedster 5 1/4 speakers are made by most company's of speakers i used to compete in sound off competions my pref would be mb quart as they sound really good with great imaging and tonal control and are german

Well, if you want to go audiophile level, go with Zapco 5 1/4 component set up. It will set you back about $700 and will decimate MB Quart.

The only potential issue I can see with the Zapco drivers is the fact that they may need spacers to fit on the rear shelf, and you would also need to spend big bucks on a front end, as well as power amplifiers. They are awesome units though.

You should be able to get some of the entry-level MB Quarts to drop right in, same with Focal, Infinity etc, etc.

This will be to hook up to my refurbed Becker Mexico. I don't think I need much.

Hi Zedster the reason i sugested mb quart is they have ow drive imp and dont need much power so factory amp will do and if you go splitz will need custom pods like in my car as i have alpine dd drive splitz worth over $1200 in the front and $800 in the rear with Nakamichi music bank cd changer and head unit and 1505 alpine and 505 alpine amps with duel 13 inch focal subs
