Title: Recommend a windscreen fitter?
Post by: Dazbot99 on 05 April 2018, 05:31 AM
Hi all,

I'm going to replace the front and the rear windscreen rubber.

Does anyone recommend a person that takes great care doing this to the W116s?

I do not want my good windscreen trim damaged.

Thanks

Daz

regardless if you do yourself or find some old installer there is a great video on this forum and I think youtube for proper installation.

I replaced my front windscreen about 10 years ago.  The guy who did it must be retired by now, but he was a very skilled operator.  What I learned from the conversation:
- getting the screen out undamaged is relatively risky.  The old rubber is not your friend.  So take it slowly and carefully.  My old screen was cracked, so this was not a worry for me.
- putting the new one in is an art.  This guy was fantastic.  What is shown in the video is really helpful.  That trick with the greased rope is amazing to watch.
Good luck.

Unless you really don't want to do it yourself watch the video and have a go. Its not that difficult I had never replaced a windscreen before doing the 116 and it was much easier than expected.
