I've just got a PDF of my Lady's data card. It's dated 12th Nov. 1975

I guess you'll have to change your avatar comments now !

No sir! I already had the same info on the importation docs that came with the car. Remember, over here the more paperwork the better.  ;D

I'm disappointed! I also sent a request to martin -etc etc but after first having it sent without a registry copy I got the answer that I must add this copy, otherwise they won't give me a data card copy.
So two days later I resent the email with a pdf copy of my registry papers and after a week I got the answer that only dealers can request for data cards. Now I believe they got so many requests at once, they had to think again.... :(

Armen,
You sent ME a request??? The contact at MB Classic Centre is called Sara. Unfortunately, I deleted her e-mail as my post box gets full so quickly. Maybe if you get in touch with the MBCC they could forward your request.

arman: The e-mail addresses I use are topteam.radtke@daimler.com and silvie.kiefer@daimlerchrysler.com (the latter is probably old hat since the disamalgamation with Chrysler). You will likely be answered by Julia Radtke, Sara Reck, or Silvie Kiefer.

I both sent my request to martin-oswald.heinzelmann@daimler.com and to Sara Reck at Topteam efter I was told to attach copy of registry.

Martin-Oswalds answer is here below:

- Dear Mr, Mudde,

thank you very much for your e-mail. Unfortunately we have to inform you
that we supply data cards not to private persons, but only to Mercedes-Benz
sales branches and dealers.

Please contact your local Mercedes-Benz sales branch or dealer (showing or
submitting a proof or ownership, since the data card is supplied from our
company to noone but the rightful owner of the vehicle), and we will supply
the requested data card to them.

We hope for your understanding.

Best regards from Stuttgart,
Thomas Weimper

I haven't got an answer from Sara at Topteam yet but I have already given up hope. It's been more than a week now...

There must have been a very recent change of policy, then, as my last successful communications with them were:

data card received: 29 January 2008

further information received: 5 February 2008

both from Julia Radtke.

I shall be making another data card request soon, so we'll see what happens then.

If they've changed policy to "dealers only", that probably cuts Australian Benz owners out of the loop altogether, as very few of the dealers tend to be helpful or interested in older Benzes, and Daimler Australia-Pacific not at all.  I have in the past e-mailed D A-P and received not so much as an automated acknowledgment.

Bandolero

I got my 2 data cards from Classicparts@mbusa.com

Germany wanted proof of ownership, so I went to these other people and they just sent them to me by email.

I would be guessing that, like most large organisations, it will depend on who you deal with and what procedures they follow.

I received my two from Germany without any proof of ownership required or delay.

Maybe I was just lucky and at the start of the queue - I did include my M100 membership number and signed it Dr.W..... but whatver it worked.

Maybe they think the Russian Mafia are running a scam or maybe they are just too busy.

Now I've tried Bandolero's lead and sent a request to MB USA. See if that works... Thanks for that Bandolero!

I can imagine that there are many requests coming in since this thread began. There are far more readers than writers in this forum and probably many W116 and other model owners started to request data-cards. That is my theory and explanation for this sudden change of policy.

I had requested one from someone at the Classic Center in New Jersey, USA.  After acknowledging receipt of the request, I never got another response; even one to tell me I needed to provide proof of ownership.  A follow-up email yielded no response, either.

I never pursued it further but now, my interest is renewed.  I'll send an inquiry to MBUSA again.

I received a reply straight away, this time (i.e. less than 4 business hours!).  However, I was really hoping for more detail like some specifics as to exactly which type of Becker Europa radio came with my car...

I wrote a letter to them today requesting any information they had for my 1979 450 SEL.  The address I used is:

This is what they will send you (without my annotations)

The "Birth Certificate" is a fancy rendering of the same information, for which you will have the pleasure of paying EUR 100 for.

Doesn't that come with the owner's manual? Or what I saw in mine is something that looks similar, but contains less information?
