Rear Seat Head Rest Question.....Thx

Guys,

I have a question about my W116 (280S). The car's rear seat came originally with no head rest (not even holes for the headrest). Now, do you know or think it might be possible for me to put one in by doing some modification work to the original seat or replace the rear seat by other model's seat that came with head rest?

Thx

Yes they are interchangable. You could also get the mounts from a rear headrest model make your seats work.

Here in South Africa, the locally produced W116's only featured rear headrests in the 1979 and 1980 model years.  Is this generally the case elsewhere in the world?

And no I'm not mistaken, W116 production continued late into 1980 here.

Also, it seems that front headrests were only featured from about 1976 ot 1977 onwards.  Can anyone confirm this?

It's good to know that any 116 can have rear headrests added on, but I like them without now, it makes reversing so much easier.

S class, both my '73 350se and '75 280S have front headrests but no rears.  Of the plethora of ebay 116's and other cars for sale type websites, I've never seen a 116 without front headrests, only plenty without rears which I thought was an option from the beginning.

The US spec cars never had rear head rests. The only ones that got the rear head rests were 6.9's.

Interesting,

So I guess there were different specifications for different markets.  Its common to see W116's here with no front or rear headrests, and they always turn out to be the early models.  My 280SE has both front and rear, which is very cool I think.  Its a 1980.
