rear light rubber seals

Hi
Does anyone know the availability of the rubber seals for the rear lights?
Most people I have contacted are saying these are no longer available, which is not surprising.
So does anyone have access to good second hand ones?

I need both sides, part numbers are A1168260158 & 0258

Thanks

Howard

Good luck finding any Howard.   I believe we'd all like to have a set of decent ones in our spare parts bin.
I've not come across any decent ones for years so I've given up.

I had reason to take my rear light assemblies out recently for the respraying of the car.

I instructed the paint shop not to bother trying to source replacements as I knew they are probably non existent.

They replaced the assemblies using a black rubber compound out of a tube. (using a chaulking silicone gun).

Its black, flexible, uv resistant, weather & heat resistant and has a 25 year guarantee. ($29 for the one tube).

This type of sealant has many brands & is readily available through DIY or  auto paint shops, just make sure its high end. (up to 25 year life span. Low end alternatives are usually about 10 year.) Especially look for the uv and sun/heat resistance. Not all have these aspects.

Obviously to ever remove the assembles again, I would have to cut it away and reapply to  reseal again. however hopefully it will last out my lifetime.

I'll post a photo at some stage. I am most pleased with the  result.

Yes, as I am finding out, through lots of helpful tips and links to suppliers around the world, that is exactly what I am finding. NLA!

Silicon sealer seems like an acceptable alternative.

Cheers

With patience one might find a decent set of seals on ebay searching for w116 tail lights.

Most are bad, but occasionally a decent set shows up.

I had a pair on order for spares, even though mine are only about 4 years on the car.

Marked as available and ready to dispatch two weeks ago - and NLA as of last week.
While 0158 is NLA, 0258 is still available for ~45EUR. I'd expect a run on the last few when the news spreads.

I picked up two pair of complete NOS US taillight assemblies for $100 each a few years ago and I'm so glad I did. At this rate I can put one pair in my car after I repaint then sell the other pair to some rich bozo to fund the paint job.  ;D

Well it pays to look into ones pile of spare parts occasionally!  ::)

Forgot I even had a complete spare set, All seals intact & in great condition.  :-[

Not 3 weeks ago I had the existing set on the car reinstalled using a rubber sealant out of a chaulking gun.

Serves me right!!   GGrrrrrrrrr
