Title: Rear floormats purchase from MBZ dealer via Ebay dont fit....
Post by: Ronin2 on 31 December 2018, 01:36 PM
The rear mat on the left doesn't fit.... am I putting them in wrong? These were purchased from a New Jersey based MBZ dealer who represented them as fitting left hand drive W116 450 SEL / 6.9....

The late cars sold in the U.S., which both of yours are, have different floor pans than early cars or Euro cars.  This is due the the use of the dual catalytic converters.  The left rear carpet and foot mat were unique to these models.  To be a dealership they don't seem to have the knowledge that a dealership should have.  Then again, 99% of people at dealerships have no idea about what a W116 is, much less that they even existed.  To put this into context, there are only two dealerships on the east coast side of the U.S. that I know of who employ people that know about the older models.  And on your side of the country you have the Classic center,......but with Tom Hansen retiring soon that place will be rather useless.

So those mats are for older Euro 116's?

They look to be for pre 1975 Euro models and pre 1975 U.S. models.  On your cars there will actually be two mats for the rear floors.  One is under the seat, and the other is the part you'd actually put your feet on.  If I remember correctly, the front most rear mats can only be removed after the front seats are removed from the car.
