Re-dye interior

I obtained some dye samples from Leatherique in Parchment for my Mushroom/Parchment car. The dye covered dark blue parts very well.

I like the World Up leather pattern better than the Cabrio, but the Cabrio color seems much closer.

None of the samples match my old part that has probably changed by time and heat. I have a small MB brochure with photos sample of MBTex and Leather and they actually match my old part fairly close.

The more I work on this the more confused I become.

Aaron, do you have a sample book with actual material samples?

You know those books are not just pretty rare, but also not cheap? if you can get one? Even I  haven't got one till now. It's just too expensive, and I fail to see why. So if anyone has one, willing to sell for a friendly price to add to the 1978 MB showroom outfit here, please let me know!

As it turns out I do have a book with material samples in it.  :)  I think I found it on ebay 4 or 5 years ago for $50.  It's specific to W116 and R107 AFTER 1975.  I still need to find one for the early cars that had the more unusual colors like Mahogany and bright red.

Anyway, the two pictures below depict the original color of parchment.  The piece of material next to it is a new parchment piece of leather from either Aeristo or Hans-Reinke.  This is the proper surface dyed leather that is correct for W116 cars sans the pebble texture.  As you can see it's a very very close match.  Though, the more important thing is that what you're seeing it the correct parchment MB-Tex color.  It's definitely much darker than the dye you received.

I have a feeling that most places associate parchment with creme` beige or some earlier colors like Egg Shell or bright beige....none of which are anywhere near the same shade as parchment.  Also, to add confusion to the mix, the parchment used in the early W116 and very late W108/W109 cars was lighter than the parchment used after 1975.  Unfortunately, I know of no one that'll ever offer the two different shades, as it would probably be too cost prohibitive.

What is the difference between 105 and 205? Isnt 205 just leather and 105 MBTex?  Are they different colors?

Yes, 205 is leather while 105 is vinyl.  Between the two I'd say there is an almost undetectable shade difference, but never enough to be obvious.....at least on the original materials.  Today materials from various places have shade differences that are almost worthy of being called a different color.  I'd venture to say that someone came up with a color that was close enough to all parchment colors to pass the inspection of an untrained eye.  It's a cheap way to sell material...and I hate it.

Regarding that link you posted about the samples.......that's what Stan and I often run into.  People asking triple and quadruple more for them than they're worth.  This particular listing has been on ebay for about a year now.  They keep relisting it when the listing expires, but they never lower the price.  And these aren't even the actual book......they're just loose samples.  I guess when people see Mercedes anything they get dollar signs in their eyes and become very greedy very fast.  I've said it a million times before, and I'll say it again.....Greed is a very ugly thing, and no one wears it well.

<<what he said ;D

I don't think i even have an auto-search programmed for these booklets on ebay. Gave up quite some time ago. I only bump into full-size sample books on Catawiki, Seidel or Nicola, maybe on Auctim. These auction sites each time offer these books starting at at least- 200+usd, and with shipping and commission, that's 300 plus. I've also seen them at double that. I have not seen them sell at those prices neither.  In my case, i'd need the German "after 75" version, and that doesn't make it easier at all. I still need one though. You can't have a '78 MB repro-showroom without that booklet behind the "Kundendienst" desk. But I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay 300-600 usd for such.
it does leave me quite frustrated though. What do these people want with these booklets, if  not to use them properly?

It's called an "investment", apparently. And MB-anything is seen as one you can milk to your heart's content - some schmuck will buy it anyway. One day.

If the majority consider something like this an investment then I hope they never become stock or investment brokers.  They'll royally screw themselves and/or their clients.
