Title: Re-chroming zinc alloy
Post by: marku on 24 February 2019, 10:53 AM
Just got round to putting all the chrome work back after painting. Most OK really but on looking at the rear rail, the one across the back holding the lock, thought it could do with brightening up a bit.  Was generally OK but there were a few spots of corrosion on the underside. The plater refused to do it. I said I would accept their best but no. Rather leaves me stuck as I don't want to fit it in its current state, the new paint really shows it up, but I would think the chances of a good replacement slim. Can these be successfully re-plated?

Yes, they can be re-plated. Not an easy job though and few will even consider it.

It cost me 185EUR + VAT to do mine in Poland, back in 2015, and I'm very happy with the result still.
If you want, I  can ask my guy where exactly he had that done (all I know is that it's a company in Cracov).

Thanks for the information. As you say not cheap and in my case 2 x shipping.
