Isn't that funny! have seen this mark on a few wheels and thought gee that foundry really pumps out some different wheels!! The wheels this is on I am pretty sure aren't genuine ones.

anyone in Oz got a single Intra 14" they want to sell? I'd use it for the spare.

Uh, on the wheels (aka rims) thing again. Look, DB are serious about just about everything automotive they do.  Start at the road. The rubber. We covered that. Then the rims. DB have very good steel rims that are beautifully made, and good enough for anyone, including a fussy dude like YNW.  But, in their wisdom, DB know that there are also folk out here that want the best there is to be had, so they made the FORGED alloy rims.  They have been imitated by other manufacturers, and very nicely in the case of Intra, but factory is best.  The 15" rims would be nice, but given the plentiful supply of 14" (by 6 1/2 inch) forged alloy factory rims (almost free, these days), why would you go for anything else?

Apologies, Ken:  I checked the 14" alloy wheels and I made a small error: the forged items have the specs in very small RAISED type on the inside of the spider - I guess this is part of the alloy forging process. You need to clean 'em up well to read the data. And the Intras do have that funny little JLL logo cast in.  I confirm that the forged items all have the steel insert for all the wheel lug holes, whereas the Intras don't - as is the case with almost all other alloy wheels.

Apparently, not only are there two widths (i think 6 and 6.5 in), but there may be different offsets too. So it would probably be wise to match them as well as you can. Further, on my 116 my wheels must be pretty old because there is no machined valve stem pass through -- it's just a hole. IN other words, the valve stems used all over the place in US tire shops won't work. Trying to stretch them through the length of the hole, which was 1/4 to 1/2 inch, was impossible and a soapy water covered valve stem would not stay pulled through. Dry ones held but I had no confidence it would stay. So I had to go to buy the MB metal ones, which retail for 15 each! I negotiated with the dealer, who sold them to me wholesale and I got out for 20 or 30 for all of them. They're really well made with beautiful threads, nuts, and rubber bits. Thinking back, I think I'd have been better off with the slightly newer bundts that accept modern valve stems.

Would you know the part number of the tyre valves sshanky?

Are they 107 400 00 13?

Hi Koan

I think you're right, the part number is 107 400 00 13, but it may be superseded by a newer number.

Gavin

This may be of help, it was attached to my spare wheel (also a Bundt)

Yes, those metal stems are needed for bundts made up to about 1980.  Thereafter they were revised to accept standard rubber stems, but are otherwise idential.  I try to hoard the early style ones from breaker's yard here as I think they look magnificent with those metal stems.

My copy of the spare wheel tag is almost unreadable, don't have the original, thanks.

All good info here.

Nice shiny wheels s-class!
