Passenger frame seat repair

HI
I have not as yet dismantled the passenger seat, but there is a prominent break in the frame on the leading edge.
You can feel it bend when sitting, plus the overall resistance seems weak. In other words it sinks down and is very uncomfortable
on anything but short journeys.

I am guessing this is a replacement rather than repair, so I am wondering where is the best and most reasonable source of
either a good second hand one or sensibly priced new item.
And what about the foam padding and horsehair parts (I am assuming these are shot too, but wont know until I dismantle it)
Are these still available?

On a good note the MB tex upholstery is in excellent condition - at least I dont have to change that!

Any advice or suggestions, will be greatly appreciated.

Replace the spring box with a good used one from a late second generation W126 (up to 1991).
Since the seat bottom skin is in good condition, transfer the old skin to the newer spring box.

Take photos during disassembly, to reduce frustration during reassembly.

We've used this on the 6.9 : https://www.ebay.de/itm/383681281825 . The difference was quite noticeable, but it is a bit of a pain in the arse to do it though. And you can only do this if your seat has the same spring style. Our 280S uses a coil spring style which means we can't use it for the 280S.

Thanks Alec,
I have just skimmed through your instructions. It seems pretty straight-forward, particularly
as I am only using the base frame without the electricasl. And the upgrade to the W126 seems to make sense
and without compromising the original look!

Ill probably have to do the same to the drivers side, when my passenger waxes lyrical about the renewed comfort!

I shall post pictures if I think it will help anyone else doing similar.

Thanks,

Howard
