Was there a specific reason why you used a W140 sender, rather than the one for the W126 that the unit came from - or just that was what was available ?

CraigS, there is no specific reason at all, its what was available, other senders would work as well.

The unit came from a W201, 190E. I have stated before that a W126 unit I saw was much wider and would not go directly in the back of the instrument panel, and I did not want to take the panel apart at that point to try to fit a W126 unit.

By the way, I compared the temperature readings with other cars, the setup is accurate. cheers

Edit: OK, I have an Extra spare instrument panel, I will go ahead dismantle it and try to fit a W126 or W124 unit, I have a feeling from your posts and from the the little experience of fitting my unit, that If you take the gauges out from the panel and fit the W126 unit as is without trimming, the unit could fit and the hole on each side of the LCD will align with the clock and trip set buttons. In this way, you could have a cleaner install.

will report back.
