New Rear Window arrives

As reported before my rear window was beginning to delaminate when I purchased the car and three attempts at second hand rear windows have been unsatisfactory for various reasons so I bit the bullet and purchased a new one from Tom Hanson of The Classic Centre, Irvine, California.

Two weeks later it arrives in my place of work and after a careful move around it just fitted into my wife's ML320CDI for the trip home.

It sure is a big box.

Fortunately all appears well with no problems

Here is some detail of the power cable connector on the LH side while the RH side has the earth connector.

Now I just have to work out whether I am going to fit it myself or else get a pro to do it.

Nice.

however i find their packaging a tad concerning - I would of thought MB could of splurged on an expanded polystyrene molded clam shell to support the glass.

It does not appear to have come from Germany but presumably is a US product which original was in a not very well protected cover with suction caps to stop it from moving.

It looks like Irvine have reinforced it with some local DIY knowledge but it has survived it's trip half way around the globe and has arrived here for a total cost of $1100 unscathed.

Excellent, Bill.

Is that a Sigla part, as original?

That's a very nice item WGB.

Mine is delaminating but still works in a fashion, only about 50% in vertical stripes.

Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Amen!

Yes very nice, I take it your receptionist must now have a strong knowledge of Mercedes parts as well as medical supplies.

I think that I would be looking for someone to install it at that cost. If you break it, no coverage If they break it, they have to replace it.

If you, or anyone else is looking to get parts from the Classic Center, I have a contact in the US that can provide Classic Center parts at lower prices (including the 15% discount). Just to give an example, a 6.9 head gasket from the CC is US$90.95 (with discount). I can get it for $78.75.

Out of curiosity,

You don't have any vested interest in supporting this party do you? ;)

Just wondering about the lack of transparency. 8)

Not at all. Am happy to put anyone in touch directly, but I don't want people emailing him for one switch etc. or to get prices "out of curiosity". I do some other business with him, and know he doesn't have the time for that. He runs a one man business. If you want to buy something, that's fine, but if you just want prices, check the internet. I have just put some one in touch with him that has bought pistons, rings, bearings, etc for a 300b engine, and he will probably save the best part of $1,000 on the purchase.
