Well, it's your choice, but I've ridden in cars with cut springs and the ride was vile, IMO, and I have to tell you that all of the three owners went back to stock or aftermarket springs later on...

Like I said, it completely depends what percent is cut.  I guess the cars you were in they cut a lot off.  I have a car that I cut 3/4 of a coil, and the difference in stiffness is barely noticeable.  (It sits about 1" lower)  Also, it depends on the shock absorber.  If you make a big difference to the spring, then you must have a different damper.
