Moss Green Interior

Hi all.  It's kind of far fetched at this point, not to mention a lot of work, and I hate to not be original to the cars build sheet, but I have contemplated putting a moss green interior in my W116.  The outside is astral silver metallic, so the colors will complement one another.  My question is, was everything with the green interior exactly like my blue interior is now?  Doors, pillar coverings, roof panels, dash, visors, seats, etc.?  I have seen some that had an odd color interior but with a black dash top.  I would love to find a nice green dash top if they were ever made.  The EPC says that the dash tops came in all the W116 colors, including green.  I have just never seen one.  And is moss green multi loop carpeting available?  I know velour is, but would like to try to stick to multi loop if I can.  Thought anybody?  AARON

As for the 116, I am pretty sure everything was green like you think. I have green with plaid cloth inserts and it is GA-REEN!

I suggest though if you come across a perfect green dash you should sell it to me and keep your car original  ;)

I agree on originality, but I just can't make myself like blue interior, even if it was leather.  I have a W111 coupe with dark olive green interior and I looovvvveee it.  I saw one W116 a year ago with a green interior in it.  It was in a junk yard.  I wish I would have snagged everything in it.  I like the velour and checked pattern set up you have.  My W126 is like that, but it is gray.  It's actually called Alpaca Gray. haha.  I don't know, the green just really moves me.  Although black or red would look really nice, too, especially with astral silver.

Im rebuilding my alternator right now.  It burned one of its diodes.  I ordered a whole rectifier plate from a local starter/alternator shop and it set me back $30.  :-)  Stator, regulator, commutator, and armature checked out ok.  Sure is better than paying $100 for a remanufactured that doesn't even look original. we'll see how it goes I guess.

Hi UTn_boy

Early w116's like mine have black dashes instead of coloured dashes. At least that is what I think. I'm almost a 100% sure that my interior is original. It is olive green velour (996) and everything is green but not the dash itself:

I have never seen a green dash myself but they do exist as you can see in this website: http://www.meinbenz.de/polster/116/polster116.htm
Look at color code 996 olivegrün/906 moos. It might be that when they changed strategy in 1975 they also started dying dashes matching interior colors.
Mercedes-Benz maybe didn't dare to start with that from day one, because they didn't know if the cars would sell that good. You have to store all these different colored dashes also and that cost quite some money. After three years they had better understanding which colours did well and how to handle stock best.

There's also -on the same site- all the exterior paint colors of the w116: http://www.meinbenz.de/farben/116/farbcodes116.htm

EDIT: Maybe I'm just used to it but I like my black dash better as it is a nice contrast to the green and matches the exterior of the car of course too!

I have a 116 with blue interior and I like it as well as the green. It is even in better shape. I was going to keep this secret for myself but sice you like green as much as I do...There was a fellow in the shop section selling his 350se in NC and it had a green plaid interior. He was only asking $300-400 for the car but was willing to sell me just the interior.

I have since sourced some of the smaller pieces that I needed and vowed to stop being a hoarder. Let me know if you go for it. Ooh and I just remembered Alabbasi out of Texas has green leather for the seats he is letting go cheap. You can PM him off this site as well.

Good luck!

Here is a pic of my green dash. '79 280SE ('78 build year). Not sure what exact color of green it is.

Wow!  The stoff green is really nice, as well as the stoff black.  Those two are my favorites.  The leather green is more like the green in my W111 coupe, the dark green, and the velours green looks comfy, too.  Since the early cars had black dash tops regardless of interior color I suppose that since mine is a 1976 I could get away with having a black dash top is I absolutely had to.  \

Evan, Mike, and Arman, I cannot thank you enough for all of the invaluable information and all of the wonderful pictures.  Arman, I like the black dash top with green interior, too.  It is a very nice contrast.  The chances of me finding a good green dash top are slim anyway.

By the way, I finally got the new rectifier plate in the alternator and everything works great.  Couldn't have better spent $30.00.  Now I need to get down and dirty with mr. carburetor and find out why I am getting 11-12 miles to the gallon.  Kind of weird, it runs so good and idles perfect.  Transition between primary and secondary venturies is flawless, too, and the crazy thing back fires every time I turn it off.  It is so funny to watch people when that happens.  Scares the crap out of them. haha.  I know I know, I am horrible.  Thoughts anybody?

Well that's a nice interior EvanB! You have the velour 906 moss color code which is a bit more yellowish green than the pre 1976 olive green.

And I like the green dash as well especially together with all that wood grain from the rest of the dash. Very tastefull. Nicely balanced with the black steering wheel, the black gauge panel and the little black panel with light switch and hand brake release.

Arman, do you have some photos of your interior to share - I'd like to see the early olive green version.

Thanks
