Leather seat restoration

Hey all,

Anyone have any experience refinishing the worn outer edge of driver's seats "in-situ" (in car?)  The cost locally is hideous to pull the covers, and replacements are SO high dollar anyway.  The leather is not torn, but the finish is worn away on the edge that my bum/back rub against (the upper seat bolster).  My interior is Parchment, so I can't just rub boot creme in as I have on blue and black interiors.

I've never tanned and finished leather, but I can't imagine it involves anything too high-tech....

Does anyone know anything about trying to restore the genuine finish on a worn spot?

Hi John,
no experience yet, but I read somewhere ,maybe on this forum, that Leatherique had good products to address worn leather.  Looking thru the site again there's some interesting products they sell for quite a few applications.  And they're German too.

Oops, no they're not. Jersey US

Here's the Aussie site that I visited ages ago. Nice pics

Leatherique has a product called crack filler. It is used to fill cracks like bondo. You can then sand it down and die it. It should last a while.

What a great site!  Leatherique - they are SO low tech and hilarious site descriptions of the process....obviously they've got leather "licked" when it comes to restorations - the before/after is fabulous!

Obviously just a home business going strong - I can't wait to talk to them by phone.  Jersey....!

"So.... Youse wants to fix dem seats good, huh?  Fogetaboutit!  Use dis stuff rights here...."

(what I think the Leatherique family photo album might contain)

Anybody ever use these guys?  I'm wondering if I should have the color custom-matched or order a standard color for my parchment....

Check these before/after shots!

They demo'd leatherique at the M-100 group meet in Charleston SC. They are a thouroughly nice couple. George is a pretty serious car buff I think he has a couple of very exotic cars including rolls royce and ferrari.

You may want to get in touch with Mike Freed from the M-100 group, he taped some of the demo onto mini dv. I think as an m-100 club memeber, you may get a discount on their products.

Good luck.

Hi there

Leatherique seems to work very well indeed.  I've seen it employed on many cars and they suggest that it has long lasting qualities.

Process requires 1: rejuvenator oil Aust $ 20 [250 ml]  2: pristine clean $ 15 [250ml] 3: Crack filler $15 [90 ml] 4: Colour Dye $100 [500ml]

Overl this isn't a big cost spread over the front seat pair and rear bench.

If your seats are very badly affected then it is possible to buy new leather and you can send a post to Styria for his costs to supply, howver I dare say that one front seat would cost more to replace than a full leatherique treatment for the whole interior.

In case that doesnt work, im talking to a guy in Asia to have some made at a much lower cost then the usual outlets.

I will keep the group posted on the outcome.
