Thanks, very helpful. Looks like the base size tire for the 450 SEL is the 205/70R14 .. does that sound right? regards, James

Any idea what a good used set of the alloy bundt goes for these days? Do 116 owner generally prefer them?

Yes, they're the preferred wheel by many owners - especially if they came from factory. Unlike most light alloy rims these are forged, not cast - therefore lighter and sturdier.
But the steel rims with hubcaps are quite good looking in their own special way.

As for pricing on Bundts, it depends which size.

14" (6Jx14 and 6.5Jx14) are anywhere between 250EUR to 1000EUR per set, depending on condition.
15" (7Jx15) are going for 1500EUR and more these days, and are appreciating quite rapidly.

At least that's what I see on eBay these days.
People are taking their chances basically.

Yes, all V8s, except the 6.9, used this size.
Diesel and straight-six models used 185/70R14, and the 6.9 used 215/70R14 - if memory serves.

I would adjust that 14" Bundt price a bit.. I been stumbling all over them globally. On www.marktplaats.nl and ebay.kleinanzeigen for example. Lots of them, new offers almost daily, 100-250 euros. Ate's for sure, but also pretty regular Fuchs. But, for any price, make sure you have seen what you're buying.. clear photos.

If any of you are interested, I think both the 14" bundt, part number 126-400-24-02, and the 15" bundt, part number 126-400-22-02, are still available new from Mercedes.  Depending on where you are geographically, each one will cost anywhere between $425-$580 each (In the U.S., not sure about other countries).  Yes, you will spend around $2,000 for a set, (or $2,500 if you buy 5), but they're new and won't have to be refinished.   It'll be plug and play. :) If you're appalled at that price, then wait until you see what it'll cost to buy a set of GOOD used ones, and then have them refinished PROPERLY.  If you can do the work yourself, then that'll save some time an money, but most aren't capable of doing the refinishing themselves, much less interested in doing it themselves even if they are capable.  It's not an easy job.

True that..
"Mint" is a dish best served brand new.

Shipping also adds to the cost, depending on location, and can be excessive.
If you want to save money, wait and try find someone that has 2 full sets or more for sale. Having the picking choice is a big plus. Personal, on-site inspection is of course best, but with high-res photos, a lot can be achieved as well. Have him number the wheels clearly.
This is a pretty big buy if done brand new, and for me, when it gets to spending/saving that type of cash, I do not mind the homework for a few weeks or months. Quite a few car part sellers are wintered, rigid and cold people. Giving your shopping the time it takes allows for finding nice, helpful sellers among them. It makes life a lot easier sometimes.

I wonder why so many sellers are so damned cold, rude, and nearly impossible to deal with?  A short time ago, an acquaintance of mine, whom i sometimes reluctantly buy parts from, contacted me wanting a particular part for a 3.5 cabriolet.  I happened to have this part, and when I told him what the price was, he became very rude and called me several choice words.  Things like that don't bother me, but when he finally asked why the price was what it was, I told him that: 1. You shouldn't expect everything you have to be worth its weight in gold, and 2. you shouldn't expect other's parts that you need to be worthless, and 3. if this particular car is worth as much as you THINK it is, then parts for it will follow suit.  I eventually sold the part to him for what it was actually worth instead of what he would have charged for the part had I bought it from him.

Don't be difficult, don't be stingy, don't be greedy, and don't think for one moment that we have an advantage over anyone else because of the aforementioned.  It'll bite you in the A** every time.  This fella had to eat "crow", a very distasteful dish to serve yourself.

Capitalism will do that to everyone, eventually. It's a nasty business to be doing business, profiting from your fellow man. Just because it's common and widely accepted, does not make it a good thing for the soul.
I wish I didn't have to.

Is this also gonna lead to a public stoning?

Strictly aftermarket, those are Centras that were fairly popular in the US market, and to a lesser degree, the Aus market, though in Aus they were usually painted rather than chromed.
