inner rocker replacement

I'm still trying to figure out how to remove the front @2' of the inner rocker, I know I will get there, need to remove all the undercoating inside and under the car along the joining edges.  Still going to be a pain due to having to work deep in the front footwells....  My air die grinder died yesterday so I need to get a new one this afternoon.  I use a wire brush on it to remove all the undercoating.

Anyway the question is, how much if any bracing should I weld in, like in between the A and B pillar, or across A to A? to make sure things dont move. Like I mentioned I think I'm going to replace slightly less than the front 2' of it.  The outer rocker is already removed from the b pillar all the way forward.

Robert, check out "wbrian63"'s resto thread for some tips:

https://forum.w116.org/mechanicals/6-9-521-restoration/msg113855/#msg113855

He might just chime in here as well, or maybe drop him a PM.  He is deep into a 6.9 frame off resto with some very impressive attention to detail so methinks he is the go - to guy on this ;)

I've read that in wonder several times.  I guess I'm looking for the short answer..... ;D

Added,  I looked thru and he never replaced the inner panel, just the outer and jack points.

BTW, I am looking into making a batch of front and rear jack points as they are NLA.  I have 3 and stll need one rear and Im not paying the german fleabay guy $400 for one.

stay tuned to see what I can come up with.

Sooooo,

looking at EPC it may appear as though the front rocker cover is just screwed on, not welded, is this true?

The sealing cord would indicate that side likewise is not spot welded.

IMHO opinion it would make sense if that part was removable in order to clean out the inner of the rocker panels as needed.

In the notes the screw and sealing cord were not added until late in production.  on the 6.9 starting at vin 006301

No, the later cars had a plastic shield here that went over the metal end caps.  The sealing cored is what goes between the plastic end cap and the metal rocker, as well as the partition panel.   They used sealing cord because the body shutz was so thick and textured that the sealing cord was the only viable thing to use since it would fill in all the voids that would otherwise be left open allowing water to enter should the car be driven in the rain........something I don't recommend doing anyway
