Help Needed With Mounting Oil Pan Skid Plate

Hi,

I hope its ok to dig out this old thread. ::)

I would like to mount this oil pan skid plate too, but the spacer tubes (#20 in the picture below) are missing.
Does someone knows the dimensions (length, inner and outer diameter) and surface (zinc plated? painted plack?)
or would be so nice to measure them?
This would enable me to build a pair.

Thanks a lot!

I am still to afraid to drill any holes to mount mine. It seems like it would be so easy to mess it up. There's angled metal sandwiched between the frame rails that might throw off the drill angle. I wish I knew exactly where the factory holes were placed, and if they just go through the angled metal, or what.

If you mount this plate, just make sure it goes on an engine with an engine oil cooler.  Because of the reduced cooling effect with the plate fitted, it was never recommended for those markets without the oil cooler.  USA, Sweeden, Japan and Australia (Post 1976).

This is good to know. My 300SD has a large oil cooler.

I should have added, all 300 SDs have an oil cooler, just the petrol versions you have to watch.
