I *Think* the ones you need are 113-987-00-44.  The description on EPC says this plug is used in many many places on a W116.  One description in particular stands out.  It says "At side member (rocker) inner shell".  It says a quantity of 18 are needed.  Definitely research this yourself to see if you agree.  In EPC, it's in group 68, third frame, callout number 243.  Above the main frames are SA's.  Disregard those.

Another possibility (same group and frame number) is 000-997-19-86.  Callout number 174.  It says, "Grommet on side member (rocker)", and requires a total of 22.

UTN, Thanks, looks like 113-987-00-44 is the one.  looks like @41 per car!  I dont need that many I have a pile of used ones but may need a few more.

I ordered a bunch of 000-997-19-86 they are 10mm plugs the ones I got were translucent plastic but I have seen black ones.  Dont really know where they go on 6.9. Some people have used them of r107? for the lower side trim strip where there are more holes in the rocker than the trim strip has plugs.

Well, Mercedes is bad about superseding a part with a modern alternative that looks absolutely nothing like the original.  So maybe that's what we're seeing regarding the opaque plastic ones?  Just guessing.  I've seen them used on 1968-1968 W109 cars on the insides of the door jambs, but I've never seen them on an R107.  Then again, an R107 is not something that's commonplace anymore, so I may be forgetting something.  None of my customers have any these days, and the ones you do come across are either ragged out all to hell or someone is asking quadruple more for it than it's worth.

Do they have to be the genuine part? I am all for originality but there are many commercially available ones you just need to match them to the originals. I will own up to replacing many on the car.

The genuine Mercedes ones are so inexpensive I never bother to seek out an alternative.  Furthermore, if the ones from Mercedes are so inexpensive and you go to find cheaper ones, then you may end up with a piece of crap piece of rubber that dries up and falls out in a couple of years.

It is not that they are cheaper just more convenient.

I wouldn't chance it.  The corrosion prevention of your car is at risk otherwise.
