Nathan, I'm surprised that you accused me of that act. I pretty certain I had nothing to do with the prior bumper assembly. ;) :D 8)

The dash is slightly thicker, because the instrument cluster won't fit with the rubber gasket in place. It's fine without it though. It's not grossly thicker, like the one in my 6.9 though.

Tim

I'm surprised you didn't pull out your handy glovebox supply KY jelly and gloves and lube it up for installation.  :o

TJ 450

"Glovebox supply..." Hahaha, that would have assisted, I'm sure.

Nathan - far as I know, the company which you noted is one of the few (if not the only) company that does a factory refurbishment of the 116 dash units. I'm still interested, even at the price for shipping, etc. - assuming they have molds for correct (left-hand) drive MB's  ;)

ill ask dad Brian,
as i cant recall the name of the company off hand.  i recall a few years back ~ 2003 a mechanic offering a new unused dash (blue) here in perth for a few hundred bucks. i passed as i thought i could never be bothered to remove my dash.  in retrospect, well...

as noted on another post,
got a little bit of work done today with the help of TJ.  yesterday i tidied up all the vacuum lines and wiring (why does every 116 have to have a butchered radio wiring harness!). i put the original hirschman aerial from the red 6.9 in it - these things are truly a work of art to look at! they even have their own custom mounting brackets.
today we started to put all the door trims on (i had hoped to delay this til it was tinted but time is beating me so went ahead anyhow).  not the greatest pics but some stripped pics of the interior which some may not have seen is under their carpet before. a small tip i didnt think of - the rubbers which are on both the inside and outside of your window base under the chrome strip and trim piece, have different clips for the inside and outside. TJ and I only learnt this after we failed to successfully get the door trims on!
it needs to be said again, those germans went to the end of the earth to ensure no shortcuts were taken. only when reassembling these things can you appreciate how overengineered these vehicles are. from the little conduits on the floor and behind the seats for wiring/vaclines, to the insulation behind the seat, or that bloody vacuum locking design for silent locking!

it seems this post has reached the "60 days" thing, so its about time for some more pics. the car is coming along, slowly.
really havent had time for much but the interior trimming has been done. with new carpets, new roof lining from germany. the 126 roof seems to be working well.
just need to fit a few interior bits, change the seats from the red 6.9 (which has reasonable quality leather) and the odd external bit. thats it. i took the car for its first 'twin' drive with the mohican. it handled well and seemed to have good power.
a full youtube video will follow in the next month or two from start to finish, but here is one from the other day

That car really has come a long way. The carpet has a really crisp appearance, too.

All in all, an exceptional project.

First time I have seen this thread. Must say im am impressed with the work done.

plmstr92

Fantastic, really impressive.

nathan

Wow, didnt realise how long its taken to get this car pretty much complete! the date on the first posting is kind of long ago!
used the two 6.9s for a mates wedding the other day. first time the two have been on official state business together.
'goldie' is no longer icon gold.  only a few minor niggles, otherwise the cars get good glances. even got respect from a guy in a cl600 the other day who stopped to chat.
i think he thought i was a bit odd that i knew his 140 based cl was an import based on its inclusion of headlight wipers!
some pics from the day
