you have the new rubber mounting pads too dont you ?

What are these ?

koan

Crikey! ;)

These are rubber pads that are sandwiched between the bumper mounts and the car body, to stop gouging of the metal, rust & vibrations. They also seal the interior of the boot from the outside world. Very important devices.

as balki bartokomus once said, "of course i do, dont be reeediculose!"
:D and cousin Larry.

I'm glad to see you can get these pads.  I reused old hardned ones which I thought was better than nothing.

These pads are the rear only I take it, 'cos I didn't find any at the front.

How many are there altogether?

koan,
what are these?! ha ha, we are a crazy bunch.
from memory there are 2 on the rear lower bumper, and 3 on each of the rear upper bumpers. not expensive and youd rather have these as they stop water getting in the holes that go into the boot. i only took one crap pic as an example - sorry

got some time over the weekend to work on the car thankfully.
TJ and MT gave some much needed help...well, TJ slogged his guts out and MT provided constructive criticism (joking MT! ;))
yesterday got the front end done with lights, bumpers, trim peices and so on.
today, thank god, got that dash in. all fitted and everything connected (barring hydro lever). there are some electrical demons but i thknk these relate to the fuse box coming out so will review them later.
you can see in the pics
dash out.
the tabs where your wood gets screwed on with the 10mm plastic nuts
the home job protection for the wood as the dash went in - i idid this based on a past traumatic experience where i gauged a massive line across a nice piece of zebrano (sorry about that
     126  bit TJ!)
we put the dash in from in the car (boot to bonnet direction) over the steering wheel which had been dropped). when TJ told me to get the vaseline, i was a bit concerned. it was actually
for the dash insertion, and it worked! basically we flooded the passenger side of the dash with vaseline and then pushed hard on the dash and it slid past the A pillar which is too small to
allow it simply past.  if you tried this with an old dash, it would likely crack which is what most people find. however, with the new repadded dash it flexed past it thankfully without any
   catastrophes.
finally are the new number plates

It certainly looks like a top 6.9 in the making with the dash installed and the front end assembled! I was quite impressed with how the dash went in. I would hate to try it with a crusty one, but I'm going to have to attempt that shortly.

I forgive you for the zebrano gouging, it cleaned up nicely regardless. ;)

Nathan, that's looking nice.  The dash consists of a metal frame covered by a layer of foam stuff, then the vinyl skin.  Has this dash had a new skin applied over the original one, or do they strip off the skin and foam, and remanufacture it?

I would be VERY interested in knowing where the dash rework was done. That's something I'm facing with #521, in the not-to-distant future.

Congrats Nathan, TJ & MT - that's looking amazing.

Nathan - what's going to happen to the project when you move to Melbourne?

I offered him $50 to take it off his hands and he reluctantly accepted it  8)

PS - I didn't do much, only point out errors and generally correct incorrect assembly. Which im forbidden to go into detail on.  8)

$50 sounds like a fair price.  Especially with how little has been spent on that car so far.

Those newly chromed bumpers are making me weep they're so pretty.

i wish to point out that the only errors lay with TJ, who incorrectly put the metal frame under the bumper on upside down (least i think it was TJ, it could have also been me)...

S, i believe they must have taken the old liner off as this dash didnt seem to suffer from the typical thick dash syndrome common to many reskinned dashes.  everything fit on quite well without too much effort which was a nice change.

Brian, im in australia, so might be abit far for your dash to be done! i think dad sent this one over to adelaide from memory, cant recall exactly.

one major disappointment from the weekend was that when we went to put the new headlight glass on, some moron in australia had provided dad with left hand drive glass.  this is the second time its happened to us. the first time i picked up on it in a day or so, but this time the project has taken so long theyll probably deny provision of goods!

Nathan, I'm surprised that you accused me of that act. I pretty certain I had nothing to do with the prior bumper assembly. ;) :D 8)

The dash is slightly thicker, because the instrument cluster won't fit with the rubber gasket in place. It's fine without it though. It's not grossly thicker, like the one in my 6.9 though.
