Title: Glovebox slanted. Fix?
Post by: OLDGOLD on 05 November 2018, 10:45 PM
I'm aware that the biggest reason the glovebox slants down to one side is the contact switch for the glovebox light, but is there any way to fix it?

I honestly wouldn't be that opposed to to deleting the switch if it meant preserving the alignment of my wood trim.

If a fix has been posted elsewhere on this forum, then please direct me accordingly. Thanks.

Mine is exactly the same way. Have not seen a fix yet. I'll be interested to see if anyone else has.

Me too! It's basically every car. Only once remember having seen one that was perfectly aligned. I would go the extra mile to fix that, if possible.

I think that over time, pressure from the glove box light switch warps the plastic and wood, and it's made worse during exposure to heat. I plan on using a heat gun to straighten the glove box door plastic and then putting a piece of steel angle iron inside so it holds the plastic rigid and keeps it from warping again.

I wonder if there is room to relocate the switch to a more substantial area?  Such as lower and closer to the hinge, or up top in the middle?  Obviously, doing so would leave a hole from the switches old location. but the thought is nice.

Reducing the spring pressure would be the way to go if it's possible to pull the switch apart.
