Title: GAHH running a 25% off sale
Post by: orientrot on 15 October 2021, 11:02 AM
Don't know how long it will be going on but I saw that GAHH has 25% off their entire website, puts front and rear seat reskin kits in MBTEX at $585 each and $1161 and $1081 for front and rear in leather, respectively. This puts their prices closer to some of the less expensive American options such as topsonline and German Auto Tops (apparently bought out by GAHH?). I went ahead and finally bought a set of rear covers for my car and a set of fronts for my dad's 300D. I'm debating getting a set of fronts as well but I should probably instead put that money towards new rear seat pads since mine, although intact and not yet crumbling replacements, are rock hard.

I did my drivers seat a couple years ago with their covers.  Finish was mat and not a good match.  Quality is good.  I guess it will shine up in another 47 years.

Does anyone have pictures of these specific leather seats, front or rear?

Likely not.  Your car originally had Roser surface dyed leather.  What you bought from GAHH is vat dyed with a matching color coat of PVC sprayed on top.  This type of leather can't be treated/fed (due to the non-penetrable PVC coating),  and never matches in color.

So Aaron,

Is there a better option than GAAH? I was under the understanding that GAAH was one of the best options? I have a 66 250SE (W111) that needs new leather throughout.  Can you recommend something closer to the original?

thanks

I mentioned it before: It's quite easy to get 40% off at GAHH, with a bit of effort. 8)

Yes you can source from Hydes here in Vancouver area, but I think they just supply the leather and then you still have to take it to a trim shop.

Yes, there are two better, more correct options than what GAHH supplies.  There is Aeristo in Grand Prairie, Tx, and HYDES up in BC, Canada.  However, HYDES does not sell to the public.  They only sell to trim shops and resoration shops.  They source their leayther from Heins-Reinke in Germany.  Heins-Reinke also does not sell to the public.  Only to retailers.

If in Europe, there is also Steenbuck that offers the same great quality of surface dyed leather.

Below are links to all of the aforementioned parties:

https://hydesleather.com/collections/concours-old-timer (https://hydesleather.com/collections/concours-old-timer)

https://aeristo.com/products#leathers (https://aeristo.com/products#leathers)    Select the "Touranil" line.

The correct leather will be more expensive, but only around $400-$500 more per hide.  So don't cheap out.

None of these places will make up/sew up seat covers or carpet kits......they only sell leather.  Once you buy the leather, send it to GAHH for assembly.  GAHH may not offer good quality leather, but they make covers that fit like a glove.  And they are happy to make up kits out of leather one may supply to them.  Call for the price.

Be cautious on redoing leather for an early W108/W109.  The pleats are very differnt, and are unique to the early W108/W109.  If necessary, send the old covers to GAHH for replication.
