fixing drivers door cabin light delay device

Took 002 871 01 51 to my electrical engineer friend and he fixed it for me.  The transistor was bad.

original is marked BC338, we used 2N2222 with similar specs.  works great now, about a 15 second delay that the interior light stays on after you shut the door.

Stan, I don't think the 280 models had the time delay relay for the dome lamps.

Interesting... I had never heard of a W116 having this option.

Apparently some options include auto wind up of the driver window if it's left open with key out of ignition and door being opened.  Not sure if this is an urban legend though

Then you had better find the relay and whole wire harness so you can install it while the car is completely apart.

Is my future assembly mechanic going to hate me for wanting that item in there? Is there a spot in the W116 280 fuse box for that relay?

I have this delay on mine, I thought it was a fault to begin with! Where is the relay out of interest? Under the dash presumably?

This relay was located in various places, and it depends on what model you have, as well as what year the car is.
