DAMN!

TJ, you are right.  THe auction described the part as being 116 320 09 28

And yes, I did check the EPC, thats a ball joint for the bottom of a 6.9 front strut - that's why I bought them expecting to get 116 320 09 28

As you can see in the photo, what I got was not the described item - they are clearly 116 320 13 28...........

Well, I guess the title of this thread is true......

I would start an "item not as described" dispute, and if you payed by paypal start it in there as well.

you will be able to return them for a full refund,

Dont let the scammer get away with it.

and sometimes you get the mother-lode :

All NOS, except the trunk handle, which the seller suggested might be  'low miles' item, however on inspection, to me it apears it could in fact be NOS.

Tj showed me that auction when it just started, as it contains a mixture of SE and SEL I couldnt be bothered trying to resell the SE stuff and passed on it ;)

The C pillar trim and front door items are obviously SE or SEL, but all the rear door items are SE.  I need a pair for my 280SE.  I will be left with a lot of surplus, but at the price I got the stuff, I really can't complain.  I'm a happy camper.

further comment - I seem to be living the lifestyle of a serial-W116 owner, so I can't have too much of this stuff.

thought i'd add to this thread - first attempt at getting merc parts on ebay gone sour.

A guy was advertising various merc bits so with a message to email for more parts. I emailed for power window switches and a steering knuckle/coupling (even supplied pics and links to this site re: coupling removal).

Thought $130 for coupling and all pw switches seemed pretty good so he listed them for me. I won the bidding. He then decided he had misread all our correspondence regarding the switches and that he was only supplying the two console units, not the whole set. Out of 'niceness' he said he would supply them all anyway.
He seemed to have trouble finding the coupling which i think i incorrectly called a knuckle, however the pics showed him where and what i was after anyway.
A week later he informed me he had sold the car but kept the switches - i saw this getting weird so when he offered to cancel the whole sale i was more than willing (PayPal had already gone through).
Now he has suggested it cost him money for his mechanic to remove the switches (what the!?) and that the part i described as a knuckle (despite the pics!) was "not even a real part" and his mechanic couldn't find it which also cost him money.
He said i was being 'unreasonable' when i asked him where my refund was.

So i now have no parts from this guy, and am out of pocket $130. I hope paypal protection comes through because i sent the seller two emails requesting the money with the threat of legal action, so he called my local police and told them i was threatening him. He also told the police he had no money in his paypal account so couldn't refund me.
He was very quick with emails, now conveniently is too busy to respond.

Thought i'd share that. I certainly recommend fellow ebayers avoid Sydney seller 'sumthingcool' who goes by the Peter Carr as well as Charlie Richards (thought that was strange as well).

End rant. (mods, if names are an issue feel free to edit, serves as a buyer-beware though...)

what an arse,
leaving some scathing negative feedback.
remember, dont give someone more than 20 bucks if they have <20 positive feedbacks. not worth your time.
commiserations :(

I have generally been happy with ebay dealings.  I am however wary of sellers with less than 99% positive feedback.

I would also say that my approach when bidding is that one needs to be prepared to loose the money if things go sour.

I also buy computer accessories on EBay, and unfortunately most of that comes from china or hong kong.

Now that buyers can leave negative feedback, and sellers cant, i feel free to describe the crap nature of certain products being offered and leave negative feedback easily. I don't have time for posting things back or refunds. If it doesn't work, it goes in the bin and negative feedback is left. I've had one Asian fellow emailing me everyday for a month asking me to remove my negative feedback as its hurting his business. (good, glad it is) He's crying to the wrong man - you sell shit, you suffer the consequences, there are no exceptions for anyone.  8)
