curtains on rear door windows

Hei guys,

has anybody seen original curtains on the rear door windows or in the rear window.
I have once seen a pic of it but cannot find it anymore.
My car has originally had them and the curtain rails are still there, but no curtains. I am planning to make my wife do a small sawing job and install them back.
I would like to know of the material and how they look.
May be these have to be in 2 parts per window and a band in the middle squeezing the curtain to a 'sandglass' shape. I dunno.
Here is a winter pic from Finland.

PS. the curtains cannot be purchased anymore from the MB dealer

Gorgeous car.

Pop over to www.m-100.cc and search for the term "curtains" - there has been quite a discussion of them among the MB 600 owners lately.

I'd like to see the installation - I would LOVE to install those in mine....

Here's my wish list -

factory rear headrests (already found parts)
rear seat recline
curtains

Does your car have the optional aimable rear reading lamps?

hei and thanks,

these curtains were not the roller type, which are after market. This have rails on top and on the bottom of all the 3 windows and there should be a cloth that slides in vertical direction (like in yachts).
Looking at the M100 forum, I think these would be very expensive if these were available. So it is a good idea just to make myself and find a cloth that does not fade in the sun, maybe like what they use in boats.

Yes I have those reading lights, I think these are not aimable but fixed, and the back headrests. I will attach a pic of the rails on the back doors and rear window soon.

They were very common on W116's that I saw when I was a very young child living in the Middle East. Never saw them here or in the UK.

Well that is very interesting, because this baby was first bought in Saudi Arabia. From there it went to London and from there a Finnish guy bought it. But the first owners are unkown. So possibly it could be an arabian installation rather than a mercedes one, but I wouldnt realy care.

It's probably a factory install. It's blazing hot in the middle east during the summer so it would make sense to have curtains. As John said, the M-100 forum discusses these before. Some of the guys on that forum have scary knowledge about these cars.

I have finally manage to buy and insert curtains on my back doors and rear window. Found it on german ebay, they are for a SEL W126 but they fit fine and the price is very reasonable. I got them black, available in various colors, looks fantastic, I will post some pics later.

I have a set of these in my W126 420 SEL. Interesting that they also fit the 450 SEL. I have a 6.9 restoration project and will have to buy a second set for this! Mine are also black, this was the only colour he said was available when I got mine. I notice the ebay listing you linked said black, grey or cream. Ideally I wanted dark blue to match my interior, but I am pleased with the black.

yes, it includes the rails and screws and all that is needed.
I had originally the rails installed and luckily these fit directly on them.
My German is very minimal too, but I use the internet translator and it works great http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Okay - now I want a set.

If anyone knows (or learns) of a complete set of curtains for a W116 - preferably in (1) cream, or (2) black (NOT grey!), and complete with rails - please let me know.

Guess it matters not which-handed the steering wheel is for this particular accessory (left-handed curtains being probably in the same category as left-handed hammers and long weights).

Gordon, we should see if anyone else wants to make a "group order" from this Ebayer.  I'd want the rails in balck though as my door trims are black!
