Longstanding members may remember the Aus spec 450SE that belonged to member "pompy" here in South Africa.  I did a lot of work on the car for him, and then for subsequent owners.

The car is still here and in good hands, belonging now to a serious collector who intends to keep it for a long time.

He is wanting to know the option/colour codes for the leather and carpeting.  The car appears to be a 1976 build, 1977 registered, one of the first K-jet cars.  THe leather is the basket weave print in what I would term "bamboo".  It is not the later, brighter "orange bamboo".  The carpetting is the matching stuff in a loop pile.

Any help appreciated.

Only reference I can find to "Bamboo" is Code "249", but it states "up to 01.01.1972", so I guess this is not what you need.

I have some of the original sales brochures and they list the bamboo patterned leather as 204. Its quite dark so perhaps the next one listed is what you are thinking of parchment 205.

i have the same 1976 bamboo leather and the loop carpet, code is 204 as far as i know. it can be hard to tell from photos as lighting and age/dirt can make it look quite different.

Up to July of 1975, there were 8 colors of leather available for W116 cars, as follows:

Interior trim code:

261, Black,   Leather color code of 9017
262, Blue,  Leather color code of 5020
263, Mahogany, leather color code of 8100
264, Beige, Leather color code of 8103
265, Parchment, Leather color code of 8115
266, Dark Olive Green, Leather color code of 6028
267, Bamboo, leather color code of 8102
268, Red, leather color code of 3030

From July of 1975, there were only 6 colors or leather available. :

Interior trim code:

201, Black, leather color code of 9028
202, Blue, leather color code of 5045
203, Tobacco, leather color code of 8209
204, Orange Bamboo, leather color code of 8210
205, Parchment, leather color code of 8211
206, Moss Green, leather color code of 6054

So yes, there were two shades of Bamboo leather.  It's all dependent upon the production date.  The production change date is also reflective of when they went from basket weave embossing in the pleating to diamond pattern embossing with the "pebble" look on the leather  surface.  Unfortunately, the only places to get the correct shade of Bamboo from are Aeristo and Hydes. They'll be expensive, but worth it.   The generic places such as GAHH will only have the inexpensive drum dyed leather with the incorrect embossing.

Leather code 205 parchment is an off white....think parchment paper.   Mushroom is a tan color.....much like a mushroom you see in a salad or on a pizza.  So no, they're not the same color.

While leather color code 265 mushroom was available from August of 1970, many W116 owners get that option code confused with what it really means for a W116.  Option code 265 stands for several other things, too.  Depending on the year, 265  could also mean Becker Grad Prix Radio, a 300 watt alternator, parts and cables for cars with tekada in car phone, or a cylinder head gasket for countries with low compression engines.  265 is also a paint code used from January of 1968, and is called grey green.
