I'm curious as to what people have spent on restoring their W116 wood work; trying to determine what is reasonable quote from a "French Polisher"....$A300? to do all of it? $A400?

cheers

Chris
sigh....sitting back contemplating the next purchase..!

Are they quotes? I've spent around $100 just on materials to do the 3 middle console bits and I can't get the finish right.  At $400 I'd happily hand my wood in to get a pro to do it.

My next major job is replace the dash and the wood pieces, am going to simply buy new pieces.
should ensure consistancy in the texture of the timber and the finish.

No, sorry, these arent quotes! I was quoted $A200 just to do the centre console part, which included fitting the heated seat switches (ie cutting holes each side for these)

Chris,
Duva charged 300 bucks or do for the centre console and ashtry a few years back so thats reasonable, especially considering they must cut the holes it (i wouldnt try this myself on polised wood!!!)...

Andreas, from the cracks I had, especially in the ashtray, ie two big ones, the wood was unaffected.  But it may discolour slightly.  After rubbing down the gloss and the stain, two small darker lines were present where the cracks were.  I had to rub those two spots down a little bit more until they disappeared.

In Prowler's thread about wood finish, I just finished updating my zebrano refurb album.  Pay close attention to the first pic with three cracks on the ashtray.  Two of which are quite large.  Then compare with the last two in my last post.  Looking very, very closely, unbelievably, I can still see where the two large cracks were.  But it's not that noticeable.

no problems PB
presently time is limited as im off to europe on sunday midnight but if you wish to swing by on saturday at some point, email me and we can sort something out....always good to meet up with another silver 116036er! alternatively, im sure we can catch up in time - maybe another perth 6.9 meet is in order (this is an open national invitation!)
the wood is nice, carpets no longer as attractive, and seats - well, i think they fit the 1 metre rule (some have called it the 3 metre rule for exteriors!) and are deceptive (ie actually not that nice)
regards
nathan
PS wood - duva french wood polishers
carpets - rex, own autotrim place in osborne park...forget details off hand, i sent chris to him to.  he did my seats (refoam), refoamed my door panels, recarpeted my drivers foot rest, made the carpet mats and ummm, i think thats it
