Bug screen behind the grill?

In the course of my rebuild project a couple years ago I was horrified by the collection of bugs smashed into the AC condenser and radiator. Even with the condenser and radiator out of the car it was still incredibly tedious cleaning them out.  Now they're collecting again.  The grill keeps large grasshoppers and butterflies out but not the smaller creatures.

So, I'm thinking about fashioning a window screen behind the grill to filter out most of the smaller stuff.  Airflow is obviously a concern but it seems like a window screen wouldn't be too fine as to be problematical.  Obviously I'd keep close eye on temperature.  Has anybody done this?  Is there anything crazy that I'm overlooking?  Thanks and cheers,
