Title: Broken Dash light holder help needed
Post by: mrkozzy on 07 September 2020, 03:56 AM
Hello everyone.

Before I go dismantlling my dashboard centre control panel, I thought I'd ask the forum.

My fan switch centre light has one of its 2 wires broken, which obviously renders the light bulb inoperative.

Pic attached.

The very small wire goes inside the the centre of the fan switch, but where to from there?

Do I pull off the switch, from its mounting on the panel and if I do is it something a simpleton like me could do?

Or is this tiny wire part of the complete switch in such a way that its impossible to dismantle and reassemble it?

If its too hard I will look for a better one from a donor car somewhere.

I've just changed all the lights on this panel to my new led replacements.  Looks great.  Shame to have one not working.

I fixed mine once and it was not hard. You have to take it out from the center console and disassemble it. Before disassembly take some photos and turn the knob all the way left and right to understand the switch operation. also there is one small ball and spring in the lower part of the plastic cylinder. be careful not to lose them. Remember the direction of the female plug before removing the top cover. You need very thin wire to replace the broken one. The wires are soldered beneath the top cover. Also it's a good opportunity to clean the parts. When you put back the plastic cylinder, the small vertical metal piece connected to the wire which controls blower motor flap better to be on the bottom position (yellow circle). Putting back the ball and spring is a bit tricky but possible. Sorry for bad English.

VERY useful procedure/explanation.

Thanks Taha.

Thank you so so much Taha.

Great having the pictures too.

I will attempt to do the new wiring and report back.

I'm wondering if the globe holder comes as a spare part with wiring attached?  (Unlikely.)  Mine has gone brittle and is broken also.  Anyone know?
